Intermountain Medical Center in Murray and Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George are teaming up to bring new options to patients in southern Utah and the surrounding area who have liver disease. A new specialty clinic, operated by Intermountain Medical Center, opens at Dixie Regional this Friday to better serve patients in need of liver care.
Michael Charlton, MD, medical director of hepatology and the liver transplant program at Intermountain Medical Center, will lead the new multidisciplinary team of experts that will provide care at the clinic. Prior to joining Intermountain Medical Center, Dr. Charlton was chief of hepatology and medical liver transplantation at the Mayo Clinic.
“Few areas of medicine have seen more advances than hepatology and this brings exciting and new opportunities and challenges,” said Dr. Charlton. "We are excited to bring the expertise and clinical experience we've developed at Intermountain Medical Center to the residents of Southern Utah."
The healthcare team of experts from Intermountain Medical Center has broad expertise in the diagnosis and management of all forms of hepatobiliary diseases. The hepatobiliary system includes the liver, pancreas, bile ducts and gallbladder.
The Intermountain Medical Center Liver Clinic in St. George will partner with other healthcare providers in the region to deliver the most advanced care for patients. Bringing the clinic to Dixie on a monthly basis will allow access to the most promising diagnostic and therapeutic clinical innovations.
“We saw a need to establish a liver clinic locally to better serve St. George and the surrounding community,” said Gary Stone, hospital operations officer over the liver clinic. “Now, patients have the choice to receive their preliminary treatment close to home by some of the top specialists in the state.”
