Intermountain Names Clayton Christensen to Board of Trustees

Intermountain Healthcare has named Clayton M. Christensen to serve on its Board of Trustees. Christensen is the Kim B. Clark Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School. He is regarded as one of the world’s top experts on innovation and growth, and his ideas have been widely used in industries and organizations throughout the world.

Intermountain’s Board of Trustees is comprised of 22 individuals who volunteer their time without pay to direct the not-for-profit organization. Board members set policy, create goals, evaluate management’s performance, and ensure Intermountain operates in the best interest of the community. In addition to the trustees who serve on Intermountain’s central Board, trustees also serve on governing boards for hospitals and other care services, as well as on charitable foundation boards.

Consistently acknowledged in rankings and surveys as one of the world’s leading thinkers on innovation, Christensen is widely sought after as a speaker and advisor. He has written more than 100 articles and is the author of nine highly influential books, including The New York Times bestselling, How Will You Measure Your Life? He received the Global Business Book Award for The Innovator’s Dilemma, and The Economist named it as one of the six most important books about business ever written. In 2011 and again in 2013, thousands of executives, consultants and business school professors were polled and named Christensen as the most influential business thinker in the world.

Christensen founded a number of successful companies and organizations that apply his theories in various ways: Innosight, a consulting firm helping companies create new growth businesses; Rose Park Advisors, a firm that identifies and invests in disruptively innovative companies; and Innosight Institute, a not-for-profit think tank whose mission is to apply his theories to vexing societal problems such as healthcare and education. He was born in Salt Lake City and holds a B.A. from Brigham Young University and an M.Phil. from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. He received an MBA and his DBA from the Harvard Business School. He holds five honorary doctorates and an honorary chaired professorship at the Tsinghua University in Taiwan.
