West Jordan Firefighter and Exercise Expert Team Up Online to Show Ease of Exercising

WHAT:

If you were to ask people why they don't exercise, you might notice a few themes – I don't have time. It's too boring. I don't have money for a gym membership. Sound familiar? Meagan Kline, exercise physiologist with the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute is teaming up with West Jordan firefighter Sharee Rosqvist to teach a live webcast showing simple, yet effective exercises people can do at home to improve their heart health.

It's all part of the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute's My Heart Challenge, featuring 15 Salt Lake Valley firefighters who are working to improve their heart health.

In addition to fielding questions from the viewers during the webcast, Kline and Rosqvist will demonstrate at-home exercises to target arms, shoulders, legs and core muscles.

WHEN/WHERE

The FREE 30-minute webcast can be viewed on Intermountain Medical Center's live-streaming webpage (http://intermountainhealthcare.org/hospitals/imed/communityresources/tv/Pages/home.aspx), Wednesday, June 4 at 3 pm

Viewers can also call in questions for Kline and Rosqvist to help guide them in putting a routine together to fit their needs – 801.507.2807.

BACKGROUND:

The Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute's My Heart Challenge launched mid-March 2014 and pitted 15 firefighters from throughout Salt Lake County in a head-to-head competition to become more heart-healthy in 100 days. Throughout the challenge, the firefighters have worked with dietitians, exercise physiologists and a therapist to help provide individual plans to improve their heart health by exercising right, eating healthier and managing stress. The competition comes to a close later this month.
