Intermountain Named One of Nation’s Best In Connecting Patients and Doctors

Salt Lake City – Intermountain Healthcare has been named on the 2014 Health Care’s Most Wired Hospital list, based on a study conducted by Hospitals & Health Networks. Intermountain has been named among the nation’s most technologically savvy hospital systems in 15 of the 16 years the survey has been conducted.

The Most Wired assessments on hospitals and health systems nationwide were based on four categories: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration. Although an organization may have many advanced capabilities, it is required to meet specific requirements of analytic structure that has been implemented in the determined categories.

“We continue to develop business and care processes to help patients and those who take care of patients,” says Marc Probst, Intermountain vice president and chief information officer. “Intermountain’s clinical and financial information systems allow patients to move easily between inpatient and outpatient care environments. And, our new Health Hub mobile app gives patients instant access to prescription refills, lab results, and secure messaging between clinicians and patients.”

Earlier this year, respondents completed 680 surveys, representing 1,900 hospitals, or more than 30 percent of all U.S. hospitals. The AHA journal Hospitals & Health Networks published the results in its July issue.

“The Most Wired data show that shared health information allows clinicians and patients to have the information they need to promote health and make the most informed decisions about treatments,” says Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association. “Hospitals, their clinicians and their communities are doing tremendous work to enhance their IT systems in ways that support care and delivery improvement, and patient engagement goals.”

Intermountain has been developing and using computerized medical systems since the 1970s. A complete listing of the rankings is at hhnmag.com. For more information on Intermountain, visit intermountainhealthcare.org.
