TOSH Experts Stress Hydration as Utah Temps Approach 100 degrees

WHAT:

Temperatures in Utah are hovering near 100 degrees and experts at TOSH - The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital are stressing the importance of staying well hydrated, regardless of whether you're exercising outdoors or simply enjoying a family get-together.

TOSH expert Kary Woodruff is available today to speak to news media about the symptoms of dehydration, why proper hydration is so important and how Utahns can keep hydrated and stay out of the ER this holiday weekend.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), roughly 318 Americans die every year from heat-related illnesses. Most of these deaths are preventable with proper hydration. Sweat is the body's natural way of cooling off. But if you don't have enough water in your body to allow this to happen, your temperature will rise and and can have a major impact on your health – even causing death.

Last July, three people died while hiking 'The Wave' on the Utah-Arizona border. The cause of all three deaths were lack of water and dehydration. Temperatures in southern Utah have already surpassed 100-degrees and are anticipated to remain at or above 100 for the next seven days.
