First Graders from Rose Creek Elementary To Help Riverton Hospital Break Ground in Preparation for Outpatient Expansion

Riverton Hospital is expanding outpatient services to better meet the needs of the growing community in the Southwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley. 

The new, four-story, 120,000-square foot building will be home to several additional services at Riverton Hospital, including rheumatology, pulmonology, a senior clinic, ophthalmology and podiatry. It will also allow current services such as the inpatient lab, endoscopy and physical therapy to expand. 

“Throughout the last few years, the cities in our service area have been ranked among the fastest growing cities in the nation,” said Blair Kent, Riverton Hospital’s administrator. “In order to meet the current and future needs of the residents in our community, we’re growing and expanding to better meet their health care needs.” 

Riverton Hospital and their young friends from Rose Creek Elementary will break ground for the expansion project at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18. 

In addition to Rose Creek, Riverton Hospital is inviting schools throughout the Jordan School District, as well as the public, to participate in the groundbreaking through a live video stream on the hospital’s website​. Teachers will receive a lesson plan in advance and a variety of activities to help children understand the importance of a groundbreaking in their community. The first 1,000 students will get a small box with dirt and a commemorative shovel to break ground with the hospital. DVDs of the event will be available if classes are not able to tune in on that day and time. 

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on the north side of Riverton Hospital at 11 a.m., and will consist of a short program and a performance by the Riverton High Marching Band and Drum Line. 

“The new Outpatient Services Center will allow us to offer the type of care the community expects from us,” Kent said. “This addition will last well into the future as we as a hospital and the community grow together.”
