Life Flight pilots and crew participating in unique "Top Gun" mountain flight training school this week to enhance high-terrain flying and rescues in Utah's backcountry

WHAT: 

Pilots and crew members from Intermountain Life Flight's air rescue and medical transport program are participating in a unique mountain flying training school this week. The Intermountain Life Flight team, already considered among the best trained in the world, is going through special HNZ TopFlight training to enhance their already solid experience performing high-terrain and mountain rescues in Utah's back country and high elevations. NHZ's TopFlight's Tim Simmons, one of the world's top flight instructors who specializes in mountain flying, is leading the training, which will be based at Life Flight's hangar near Salt Lake International Airport. Intermountain Life Flight is the only civilian air rescue program in the United States licensed to perform hoist rescues, and as a result of this capability, performs many high mountain rescues involving the hoist.
