Five Salt Lake Valley Intermountain Hospitals Earn “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures” Recognition from The Joint Commission

Five Intermountain Healthcare hospitals in Salt Lake County have been recognized as Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in the United States.

Intermountain Medical Center in Murray; LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Riverton Hospital and TOSH – The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Murray, were recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2014 Annual Report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance.

The designation is based on data reported in 2013 about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to be best treatments for certain conditions, including heart attacks, heart failure and surgical care and pneumonia, among others.

“We are honored to have five of our Salt Lake Valley hospitals ranked among the 1,200 hospitals across the U.S. to have achieved the 2013 Top Performer distinction,” said Larry Hancock, CEO and regional vice president of Intermountain Healthcare’s Central Region. “It truly is a reflection of the dedication of our entire hospital staff for doing the right thing, at the right time, for each of our patients.”

The five hospitals were ranked in the following quality measures: In order to receive a Top Performer ranking, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on accountability measures:
  1. Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures
  2. Achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases
  3. Having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above
“The commitment we have to our patients is to deliver extraordinary, personalized care, that helps each patient and their family live the healthiest life possible,” said Hancock. “This recognition means we are on the right trajectory and challenges us to keep striving for excellence.”
