Dr. James Recognized as a National Leader in Patient Safety

Salt Lake City — Critically ill patients now have an extra layer of support thanks Salt Lake City — Becker’s Hospital Review has published the 2015 edition of its list of “50 Experts Leading the Field of Patient Safety” and included Intermountain Healthcare’s chief quality officer Brent James, MD, on the list, which includes individuals at national organizations, universities and healthcare organizations working to improve patient safety.

In highlighting Dr. James, Becker’s published the following:

“In addition to serving as CQO of Intermountain, a 22-hospital system, Dr. James is also the executive director of the Intermountain Institute for Healthcare Leadership, where he has personally trained more than 5,000 senior physician, nursing and administrative executives in clinical management methods focused on quality and patient safety. He has received numerous awards for his contribution to improving healthcare quality, including the NCQA Quality Award and the Joint Commission’s Earnest A. Codman Award, among others.”

Several other notable healthcare leaders are among the patient safety experts identified by Becker’s, including: Don Berwick, MD, president emeritus and senior fellow of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement; Christine Cassel, MD, president and CEO of the National Quality Forum; Patrick Conway, MD, deputy administrator for innovation and quality and CMO of CMS; Atul Gawande, MD, general surgeon and prominent public health researcher and writer; and Robert Watcher, MD, professor and associate chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
