Utah Valley Only Hospital in State to be Named One Of Nation's 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals

Now in its 18th year, the Truven Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals singled out 50 hospitals that achieved superior clinical outcomes in this critical part of hospital care. It measures performance in several key areas such as risk-adjusted mortality, 30-day readmission rates and severity-adjusted average length of stay.

The winning hospitals saw fewer complications, had shorter average patient lengths of stay, and significantly higher inpatient survival rates than non-winning hospitals.

“Our cardiovascular caregivers work tirelessly to deliver the best care to our patients. Our physicians, nurses, techs and managers are all dedicated to helping patients with their heart health. We’re very pleased to be among the top cardiovascular hospitals in the nation,” said Steve Smoot, CEO of Utah Valley.

Utah Valley treated 2,879 patients in 2015 for cardiovascular-related issues. The hospital has three heart surgeons, seven cardiologists, two electrophysiologists and two vascular surgeons on staff to help patients with a wide range of health challenges.

“We’re really proud of our cardiovascular team and the great work they’ve done over the past couple of years to improve care for our cardiac patients. It takes an entire team to make such a difference,” said Jane Fox, director of Heart Services for Utah Valley.

To determine this year’s winners, Truven Health researchers analyzed 2013 and 2015 Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, 2015 Medicare cost reports and second-quarter 2016 Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare data.

The winning hospitals were announced in the November 7 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine. The 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study is available at 100tophospitals.com.

Utah Valley Hospital has been named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics™, an IBM company. It’s the only hospital in the state to make this year’s list.
