American Fork Hospital Named One of the Nation’s 100 Top Hospitals

The annual study, which began in 1993, evaluates the performance of hospitals across the country in 11 key areas that encompass their ability to safeguard patients, improve outcomes, provide evidence-based treatments and deliver care at a reasonable cost.

“This recognition from Truven Health is an honor for our hospital and our community,” said Jason Wilson, administrator of American Fork Hospital. “Our team of dedicated caregivers work tirelessly to deliver the best care to our patients. This award demonstrates we are on the right track and making a difference in the health of our community. We are very pleased to be among the top hospitals in the nation.”

To determine this year’s winners, Truven Health used independent public data and proprietary analytics to create a balanced scorecard of clinical, operational and financial metrics over a five-year period from 2011 to 2015. The study objectively gauges a facility and its leadership’s ability to drive consistent, outstanding performance compared to its peers. It compares hospitals with others most like it, assigning each hospital to one of five groups according to size and teaching status: major teaching hospitals, teaching hospitals, large community hospitals, medium community hospitals and small community hospitals.

According to Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president of Truven Health Analytics, the health care industry’s ongoing transition from fee-for-service to value-based care appears to be bearing some positive results for both patients and payers. “The magnitude of improvement we’ve observed over the last five years is greater than any other five-year period we’ve tracked. On top of that, this year’s winners have reached new highs in performance in comparison to peers across the country, which suggests that improvement in value from hospitals is likely to continue.”

The 100 Top Hospitals were announced in the March 6 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine. The 2017 winner’s list and study information is available at 100tophospitals.com.
