McKay-Dee Hospital Hosts Second Annual Community Heart Fair Friday

McKay-Dee Cardiology Clinic is hosting its second annual Heart Fair on September 8, 2017 at McKay-Dee Hospital from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
 
This public event includes free heart assessment from the cardiology team, presentations from experts in cardiology, healthy cooking demonstrations, and booths with information and resources available to the community.
 
The expert presentations by McKay-Dee Cardiologists include:
  • “Blood Pressure Basics, 101” by Bilal Aijaz, M.D., at 10 a.m.
  • “Common Arrhythmia Problems” by Jon Melman, M.D., at 11 a.m.
  • “Cardiology A to Z” by Eric Lindley, M.D., at noon.
Free heart assessments occurring throughout the day will consist of Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements, blood pressure screenings, and ABI testing for increased risk. Everyone who participates in the heart assessment will learn their heart health score and a receive a booklet with ways to improve it.

John Miller, executive chef of Intermountain Healthcare’s northern hospitals, will present a “Mediterranean Diet” cooking demonstration at 10:30 a.m. and a “Healthy Snacks” cooking demonstration at 11:30 a.m. Both demonstrations will include recipes as well as tips and tricks for cooking heart healthy foods at home.

In addition to the cooking demonstration, Chef John’s team will provide a menu of heart healthy refreshments.

The event will be held in the Thomas D. Dee Auditorium at the McKay-Dee Hospital Education Center, and all participants will have the opportunity to win prizes throughout the day.
