A Life-Saving Donation: Generous Caregiver Donates the Ultimate Gift – a Kidney – to Colleague’s Husband

WHAT:

On Wednesday, September 5, Kingslee Teo, a respiratory equipment assistant with Intermountain Homecare in Ogden, donated one of his kidneys to a co-worker’s husband, Jason Anderson, who has been living with end-stage kidney failure. Anderson was on a kidney transplant list that could take years to find a suitable organ for transplantation.

This amazing story began earlier this year when Teo overheard his co-worker, Monica Anderson, mention that her husband, Jason, needed a kidney transplant. Teo, who recently got married, went home and considered whether someone like him could be the donor. A few days later he approached Monica and suggested he be tested. Monica and Jason were amazed at his offer and generosity, and their amazement turned to joy when after months of testing Teo was found to be a perfect match.

Media are invited to meet with both patients on Thursday, September 20 at 10 a.m. on the hospital floor where they recovered post-surgery to talk with them and members of their medical team about the impact this generous gift has on both their lives – and the impact organ donation can have on others.

Currently, more than 114,250 people in the United States are on that national transplant waiting list. In Utah, 772 people are currently on the organ transplant list: 519 kidneys, 154 livers, 4 pancreas, 16 kidney/pancreas, 72 heart, and 7 lung.

Video b-roll and photos of the transplant surgery will be made available to media on Thursday at the event.
