Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital Hosting Third Annual Heart Fair Friday

This public event includes free heart assessments from the cardiology team, presentations from experts in cardiology, healthy cooking demonstrations, and booths with information and resources about heart health available to the community.

Expert presentations will include:

  • "Heart Healthy Eating” by Registered Dietician Kim Folkman at 10:30 a.m.
  • “Under Pressure: Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself” by Heart Failure Diagnostic Cardiologist Jerry John, MD at 11 a.m.
  • Cooking demonstration from McKay-Dee Hospital Executive Chef, Chef Ralph at 11:30 a.m.
  • “Hey Doc, What Diet Should I Be On?” by Interventional Cardiologist at McKay-Dee Cardiology and Adjunct Professor of Cardiology at the University of Utah Eric Lindley, MD at noon.

The free heart assessments occurring throughout the day will consist of Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements, blood pressure screenings, EKGs, and ABI testing for increased risk. Everyone who participates in their heart assessment will learn their heart health score and receive information with ways to improve it.

Resources available in the expo area include information about palliative care and advance directives, registered dieticians teaching about heart healthy diets, CPR demonstrations by certified instructors, information about LiVe Well fitness classes, and Intermountain Therapy Animals’ pet therapy teams.

In addition to cooking demonstrations, Chef Ralph’s team will provide a menu of heart healthy refreshments throughout the event.

The heart fair will be held in the Thomas D. Dee Auditorium at the McKay-Dee Hospital Education Center, and all participants will have the opportunity to win prizes throughout the day.
