Primary Children’s Hospital Craniofacial Patients Treated to Free Salon Day and Photo Shoot

Five patients from the Primary Children’s Hospital Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Center were the recipients of a free salon day and photo shoot on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Paul Mitchell The School in Holladay. The event was for any patients ages 12 to 17 who’ve had craniofacial surgery or treatment for conditions such as cleft lip, cleft palate, Robin Sequence or other related craniofacial conditions.

“It’s wonderful to spend time celebrating these kids. It’s really nice to do something for our patients that isn’t a medical appointment that allows them to feel pampered and taken care of and gives them the opportunity to connect with some of their peers,” says Natalee Lyon, RN, Clinical Nurse Coordinator for the Primary Children’s Cleft/Craniofacial Center. “The opportunity to treat patients to an activity outside of the hospital is valuable and heartwarming to hospital caregivers too,” she adds.

Patients received manicures, facials, haircuts, colors, styling and makeup services from Paul Mitchell professionals and students. Each of the five patients was also able to bring a caregiver, either a parent, sibling or other loved one who also received the free salon services and a photo shoot to show off their new look. Several Primary Children’s staff got a new look as well, which made it fun for the patients to see their caregivers in a different setting.

Paul Mitchell The School generously donates all services and supplies for this “Celebrate Event.” This is the second year the school has partnered with Primary Children’s Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Center for the event.

“At Paul Mitchell The School, we believe when you work in the beauty industry, it’s vital that you have what we like to call a servant’s heart. We also believe each and every individual is worth everything: every smile, every laugh, and every happy moment. Every chance we can provide a positive experience is worth everything to us,” said Hollie Langlois, Chair of the Be Nice Committee at Paul Mitchell The School Salt Lake City. “When you give back to your community, your community will give back to you. Giving back is the new black,” she adds.
