Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital Gives Out 175 Helmets at Snowbasin Resort

Intermountain Healthcare’s McKay-Dee Hospital and Snowbasin teamed up again for Safety on the Mountain, an event that promotes safety and injury prevention for skiers and snowboarders by handing out free helmets.

Hospital staff kept watch on the slopes for skiers and snowboarders who were not wearing a helmet on Dec. 20. The staff gave unprotected skiers a “ticket” that they could then redeem at a McKay-Dee Hospital booth located at Snowbasin’s lodge. A total of 175 helmets were given out during the day.

Davy Ratchford, Snowbasin’s general manager, said, “At Snowbasin, we believe safety on the slopes is of the most importance.  Skiing and snowboarding is incredibly fun and we want all our guests to enjoy themselves the whole season.  We believe the best way for all skiers and riders – of all abilities – to have the best season ever, is to be proactive about safety by wearing a helmet, respecting the slow zones and knowing the skier and rider code.  Intermountain Healthcare is an innovative leader in care and we are thrilled to partner with them once again on safety awareness and we appreciate tremendously their free helmet giveaway.”

Falls and spills are bound to happen during a day on the slopes. A helmet can keep a simple fall from becoming a devastating head injury. That’s the goal of the Safety on the Mountain event: to help promote safe skiing and prevent further injuries in the event of an accident.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year. As a hospital, it’s important to us to not only help with recovery but with prevention as well. Giving out helmets is just one of the ways we do that,” said Mike Clark, Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital’s administrator. “Snowbasin is a great community partner and we are excited to work with them again to promote Safety on the Mountain.”

This is the third year that Intermountain Healthcare and Snowbasin have partnered for the safety event.
