With COVID Cases Trending Downward and Vaccines Being Rolled Out What Does This Mean for Utahns? Intermountain Physician to Provide Update Today at 11 am, MT

Community member receives COVID-19 vaccination.

WHAT:
This week, six counties in Utah were moved to moderate transmission levels, including Salt Lake and Davis Counties, as new COVID cases in the state continue to trend downward. What does this mean from a COVID risk standpoint for Utahns and what do residents need to do to continue to be safe? What does the horizon look like for the pandemic in Utah?

Dr. Brandon Webb, an infectious diseases physician at Intermountain Healthcare, will address the loosening restrictions and will provide an update on the current impact of the COVID virus on Utah hospitals and caregivers in Utah, today at 11 am, MT, as part of the Intermountain Community COVID update and weekly report.

With vaccinations being rolled out more broadly this week, is Utah on the road to recovery and what precautions need to be taken to prevent a potential fourth COVID surge? What concerns still exist about COVID variants? As Utahns are vaccinated, should they continue to wear masks and social distance? What precautions should they still take?

Some states, such as Texas and Mississippi, have lifted mask mandates completely. What does this mean for transmission of the virus and does this concern infectious diseases experts? Could states move too quickly?

Dr. Webb will address these and other topics, including an update on the rollout of the one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine, and why it’s important that people get vaccinated with any one of the three COVID vaccines currently available in Utah.
