How can we help?
In an effort to make mammography as accessible to the community as possible, Intermountain Healthcare is bringing their mobile mammography unit to Tellica Imaging, 256 E. University Parkway in Orem, on May 6.
Utah has as one of the lowest rates of mammogram screenings in the country, which is why Tellica and Intermountain are bringing screenings closer to where people live.
Tellica is an outpatient imaging service and subsidiary of Intermountain.
Doctors recommend women begin mammogram screenings at age 40 and continue doing so annually as long as they’re healthy. When detected early, breast cancer is not only treatable, but in some cases doesn’t require radiation or chemotherapy.
It’s estimated that one in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, and mammograms play a key role in early detection.
“At Tellica and Intermountain we’re committed to helping people live the healthiest lives possible,” said Brad Isaacson, Tellica Imaging’s chief operating officer, “We view mobile mammography as a way to provide critical access, and high-quality care for our patients.”
People can make an appointment by calling 1-833-MAMMOGO or visiting IntermountainHealthcare.org/mobilemammo
Women will receive information about what to expect when they schedule their mammogram. For additional questions, call Tellica Imaging in Orem at: 801-357-3255.
Insurance plans cover annual screening mammograms, and there are cash pay options for those who don’t have insurance.
Businesses interested in having an Intermountain Healthcare Mobile Mammography event come to them, can make a request here.
To help bring this service to as many women as possible, businesses will need to have 15 scheduled mammography appointments each day. The mobile unit can accommodate up to 20-25 patients per day.
