Two of Utah’s Leading Infectious Diseases Experts to Address State’s Rising COVID Numbers Today as Part of Intermountain Community Update

WHAT:
As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise across the United States, including in Utah, infectious diseases experts are keeping a close eye on community transmission and hospitalizations in the state.

Two of the state’s leading infectious diseases experts – Dr. Brandon Webb from Intermountain Healthcare and Dr. Andrew Pavia from University of Utah Health/Intermountain Primary Children Hospital – will participate in an Intermountain COVID Community Update today at 1:30 pm, MT, which will be live streamed on the Intermountain Facebook page.

The latest COVID-19 variant has been linked to 40% of total coronavirus cases in the United States, a jump from 7% in April.

The two physicians will provide an update on transmission rates in Utah, COVID hospitalization volumes, variant characteristics, and recommended steps people can take to reduce their risk of contracting the virus.

Dr. Pavia will also address booster vaccines for 5 to 11-year-old age children, which the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to formally approve this week.
