Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Care Alliance
Intermountain Healthcare and Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah have formed an alliance to fight cancer. By teaming up and focusing on research, these institutions plan to take cancer care in Utah to its highest level.
While the two healthcare systems will continue to provide cancer services independently, they will work together to identify and implement evidence based best practice standards.
- Best clinic practice standards. Both institutions will collaborate in identifying and implementing best practices in cancer care.
- Data sharing for research. By combining medical outcomes data, both institutions will make more rapid progress in identifying the best treatments.
Have Huntsman Cancer Institute and Intermountain Healthcare merged?
No. They have created an alliance that allows them to expand cancer research, share expertise, and improve clinical care.
Both organizations will continue to provide cancer services as separate, independent operating organizations.
This alliance brings together Huntsman Cancer Institute's laboratory, population sciences, and clinical research capabilities with Intermountain's large patient base, clinical programs, and computer-integrated systems.
Where should I go for cancer care?
This is a personal decision. However, cancer patients and referring physicians should know that cancer care in Utah is among the best available anywhere in the world. Intermountain Healthcare provides cancer care facilities or centers in convenient locations throughout the state. This means patients can receive ongoing cancer treatment close to home.
