Intermountain Healthcare is improving people's health, not just their healthcare, and the Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy is part of our extensive pharmacy network that makes it easy to get the medications you need, delivered right to your home.
Q. Why would I want to use Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy?
A. Home delivery is a convenient way to get the maintenance medications you take every day. It saves you time and trips to the pharmacy while providing you with the same high-quality medications and patient care that you are used to receiving from Intermountain Community Pharmacies.
Q. Is Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy the same as using an Intermountain Community Pharmacy?
A. No. Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy is separate from the community pharmacies that are in our hospitals and clinics. However, the home delivery pharmacy and the community pharmacies work closely together and with your doctors to make sure you get the medications you need, when you need them.
Q. Will home delivery save me money?
A. Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy can fill your maintenance medications and ship them directly to your home. There is no fee for shipping these medications. By filling your maintenance medications with a 90-day supply instead of a 30-day supply, you may also be able to save on your copays.
Q. How do I begin using the home delivery program for my long-term prescription needs?
A. Ask your doctor to write a new prescription for up to a 90-day supply plus three refills (if appropriate). If you need medication right away, ask your doctor to write another prescription for up to a month supply to fill at the community pharmacy. Next, complete an Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy Enrollment Form and mail it to the address on the form along with your prescription and copayment. You can download this form from intermountainrx.org.
Q. Can my doctor fax new prescriptions directly to Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy? Will my doctor be contacted to obtain the prescription? Can my doctor send my prescriptions electronically?
A. Yes. Your doctor can send prescriptions three different ways:
- Your doctor can fax new prescriptions directly to Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy at (801) 442-4179.
- Your doctor can send prescriptions electronically through an “e-prescribe” system directly to Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy.
- Your doctor can call the pharmacy at 1-855-779-3960.
Once the Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy receives your prescriptions, a member of our staff will contact you to confirm if you are needing them to be processed and mailed.
Q. What should I do if my doctor will not fax a prescription to Intermountain Home Delivery?
A. Ask your doctor for a written prescription and complete the Intermountain Home Delivery Enrollment Form, which you can download at intermountainrx.org. Attach your written prescriptions to your completed form and mail them to:
Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy

A. There are many convenient ways to get refills:
Q. How long will it take for me to get my mail order prescriptions?
A. New and Refill prescriptions will be delivered within seven to ten days from the time Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy receives your request to fill. To make sure that you don’t run out of your medications, request refills about two weeks before you need them.
Q. How do I pay for my prescription order?
A. Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy makes it convenient to pay for your prescriptions. As part of your enrollment, your credit card, debit card, health savings card or flexible spending account card information will be stored within a secure system so that we can process your payment without having to collect your credit card information each time you need a refill. If you do not have any of the payment options listed above, contact the Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy at 1-855-779-3960 for more options.
Q. Do I have access to a pharmacist when using home delivery?
A. Yes. Just like your local community pharmacy, registered pharmacists are available for consultation by calling Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy toll-free at 1-855-779-3960. In the event of an emergency, pharmacists are on call to answer questions and help you with your concerns.
Q. Can I have my prescriptions sent to different shipping addresses?
A. Yes. To arrange for a different shipping address, please contact our staff at 1-855-779-3960 prior to requesting your prescriptions.
Q. Can my order be shipped to a P.O. Box?
A. Yes. Your prescription order can be shipped to a P.O. Box if delivery is being made by your local mail service carrier. If your package is coming through another service carrier, such as Fed Ex or UPS, your order typically cannot
be shipped to a P.O. Box.
Q. Do I have to pay any shipping charges when ordering prescriptions through the mail?
A. Regular delivery will always be free. If your medication requires special handling, for example, overnight or next day delivery, it will also be free. However, if you specifically request expedited handling or shipping, for
example, you are late placing your order and it’s not required for your order, you will be charged for the additional services.
Q. What if my medication requires refrigeration or special handling?
A. Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy handles all prescription orders with the utmost care. Each facility has the appropriate quality and safety procedures in place to ensure that all medication is delivered effectively, including temperature-sensitive medication. For example, insulin requires refrigeration and, depending on the destination, your order may be shipped overnight or via next-day delivery with a cold gel pack. It is also bubble wrapped to protect against moisture and packed in an insulated, expandable plastic bag. There are also shipping procedures in place to prevent medications from freezing and spoiling. There is no cost to you for special shipping requirements. Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy’s shipments are enclosed in a plastic bag and do not indicate that they are coming from a pharmacy.
Q. What if I need my medications and I am traveling out-of-state for a long period of time?
A. To arrange for a different shipping address, please contact our staff at 1-855-779-3960 prior to requesting your prescriptions. If you are going to be away for a long period of time, you can request an additional supply of medication by calling Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy. They will make certain that you have the necessary supply while you’re away.
Q. Are there any drugs prohibited from mailing? If so, which ones?
A. There are some specific categories of medications that cannot be mailed or may require specific delivery restrictions. Some medications, such as pain relief or sleep agents, are not classified as maintenance (although they may be
for your treatment). You can continue filling these types of prescriptions at your local community pharmacy. If you have specific questions about your medication, call Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy or SelectHealth.
Q. Can I get medications that are classified as “controlled substances” through home delivery?
A. The Home Delivery Pharmacy can fill controlled substances as long as the prescription goes through a patient's insurance. The Home Delivery Pharmacy does not filled controlled substances without insurance adjudication.
Q. Can I still use the community pharmacy for my short-term prescription needs and other non-maintenance medications?
A. Yes. You can continue to use a community pharmacy for your short-term prescription needs and for other non-maintenance type medications, such as antibiotics, pain relief, and sleep agents. You can go to any community pharmacy to fill your prescriptions.
Q. How do I get my medications that are normally delivered by mail or classified as specialty if for some reason I need them on an urgent or emergency basis?
A. Contact Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy or SelectHealth immediately if you have an urgent situation or an emergency related to your medications.
Q. What if I would like my prescription filled with the brand-name medication and do not want to take the generic equivalent?
A. You and your benefit program save money when you use generic equivalents. Generic medications often cost much less than the brand name. If you personally requested the brand-name medication and your doctor has not included specific instructions on the prescription to “dispense as written” or similar instructions, you will pay the generic copay plus the difference in cost between the generic and brand-name medication at the community pharmacy and through home delivery.
Q. Will Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy substitute my brand-name prescription if a generic equivalent is available?
A. Brand-name medications are much more expensive than generic medications and, in most cases, not more effective. Your prescriptions will be automatically filled with the generic equivalent when available. If your doctor determines the prescribed medication is medically necessary for treatment, your doctor can inform Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy that no substitution should take place. Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy’s pharmacist may contact your doctor directly to clarify the instructions on the prescription.
Q. What if I can only use a certain manufacturer of a medication for medical reasons?
A. You should ask your doctor to write the specific manufacturer on your prescription. You can rest assured that the prescription will be filled appropriately based on the instructions provided on the prescription.
Q. Will generic medications cost me less?
A. Yes. Your copay for generic medication is less than the copay for brand-name medications.
Q. Am I required to use Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy?
A. No. You are not required to use Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy. You have the option to have your prescriptions filled at any community pharmacy that you choose. If you are an Intermountain Healthcare employee or SelectHealth Advantage (Medicare) member, and would like to have your medications mailed to your home, SelectHealth has partnered with Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy to provide you with a home delivery option for your maintenance medications.
