These services aim to enhance your safety, improve outcomes, and ensure comprehensive monitoring while respecting your privacy.

As part of your hospital care team, specialty caregivers and physicians provide monitoring, education, and consultative services via telehealth during your hospital stay. Our telehealth clinicians, including physicians, LCSWs, APPs, and nurses, are available 24/7 for video consultations, ensuring continuous support and expertise. They work directly with unit caregivers and physicians to enhance patient care within Intermountain facilities. Telehealth and other state-of-the-art technologies are central to our effort to provide patients with the care they need, no matter where they are.

Telehealth caregivers

Telehealth caregivers support your bedside clinical team. They are based at our telehealth center and connect to your room via video and audio.

A telehealth caregiver is an experienced, specialty-trained caregiver who assists your on-site clinical team via a live video connection.
Telehealth caregivers monitor your room through a live video connection. If there is a clinical concern, they can alert your bedside team and communicate directly with you. They also help document your care, increase your safety, and improve health outcomes.

Your privacy is crucial at Intermountain Health. We ensure that:

  • Only telehealth caregivers have access to your live video stream.
  • Deidentified video may be captured and clinically reviewed for quality purposes.
  • If alerted to a potential risk, your telehealth caregiver can check in via video or audio.
Your hospital caregiver will inform you when PSM is activated. The video feed will be monitored until your care team requests it to be discontinued. A light will also illuminate on the telehealth device indicating the device is in use.
The video feed can be put into privacy mode if it is clinically safe. If you request it, your clinical team will assess the safety before turning it off.

Patient safety monitoring

Patient safety monitoring (PSM) is used in every Intermountain hospital. PSM techs support your clinical team by monitoring for falls or other unsafe behaviors.

A PSM tech is an experienced, trained technician who monitors video feeds from multiple patient rooms.
A PSM tech has live video access to your room and monitors for unsafe behaviors like falls or pulling on medical lines. They document care, enhance your safety, and improve your health outcomes.

Your privacy is crucial at Intermountain Health. We ensure that:

  • Only Intermountain caregivers involved in your patient safety monitoring can access your live video stream.
  • The video stream is constantly monitored. Your PSM tech can enable “privacy mode” to block the video feed during sensitive procedures.
  • Deidentified video may be captured and clinically reviewed for quality purposes.
  • Audio is only enabled when needed for communication with you or staff.
Your hospital nurse will inform you when PSM is activated. The video feed will be monitored until your care team requests it to be discontinued. A light will also illuminate on the telehealth device indicating the device is in use.
The video feed can be disabled if it is clinically safe. If you request PSM to be turned off, your clinical team will first assess your safety needs and PSM may continue to be used. If PSM is not used, an in-person sitter may be necessary to ensure your safety.
