Intermountain Precision Genomics Now Accepting DNA Sequencing Project Proposals With Matching Funds Up To $100,000

This funding opportunity is available to researchers at pharmaceutical and biotech companies, academic and non-profit institutions, and healthcare systems. Intermountain Precision Genomics will match up to $100,000 in funding to cover project costs for high-throughput genomic sequencing efforts. The application deadline is August 1, 2018 with funded projects announced by September 15, 2018.

The objective of this announcement is to support Intermountain Healthcare’s commitment to helping people live the healthiest lives possible by advancing molecular knowledge in health and disease. Helaman Escobar, director of Intermountain’s Translational Science Center said. “Through our support of translational research, we are helping scientists accelerate scientific discoveries into patient care across medical disciplines. This announcement is multi-disciplinary in nature and will provide support for innovative proposals that enable institutional and even global collaborations.” Escobar adds, “Funded projects will be delivered by the Translational Science Center at Intermountain Healthcare, who in collaboration with researchers at Intermountain Healthcare are actively sequencing human genomes to help explain clinical outcomes in a variety of disciplines such as Oncology, Cardiology, Infectious Diseases, and Neuro Sciences.”

According to Tyler Barker, PhD, Intermountain Precision Genomics senior scientist, “This opportunity can ease the financial burden of specimen collection and sequencing of the robust collection of samples stored at Intermountain’s biorepository.” Barker adds, “The Translational Science Center provides high-throughput sequencing using cutting-edge NGS technology and delivers annotated clinical data at competitive rates.”

Research proposals should be submitted to the Research Review Committee via email (genomics@imail.org), mail (292 South 1470 East Suite 301-B, St. George, UT  84790, or FAX (435) 251-5781. Proposals are not limited to one specific medical discipline. Specific requirements for proposals are found on the Translational Science Center website under collaborate.
