Some might say “Baby Lily” came into the world last spring with the deck stacked against her. Delivered from the passenger seat of her parents’ car at McKay-Dee Hospital’s ER drive-up, the 27-week-old “super-preemie” emerged purple and limp, her umbilical cord wrapped tightly about her tiny neck.

Yet thanks to a quick-thinking medical team and the sophistication of a Level III NICU, Baby Lily is now a healthy, curious toddler, enjoying life with her loving family in Eden, Utah.

Dr. Jeff Hirschi, who delivered Baby Lily, recalled that her entire body fit into the palm of his hand. “Her first moments of life were tenuous and treacherous,” he recalled. “All of us worked as a team to get her the right care. We were there for her, and she made it.”

The key to Baby Lily’s survival were the ventilators and specialty equipment made possible by the generous donors to the McKay-Dee Hospital Foundation.
