December Highlight - Goal Setting and Recognition
As the new year quickly approaches, it’s a great time to celebrate our successes. Recognize all the hard work and dedication you have put in to achieve your goals. There is no right or wrong number of goals to achieve by the end of the year. The only thing that matters is that you feel like you’ve succeeded at something this year. When next year arrives, there will be 365 new chances to achieve something great! Here are a few helpful tips for goal setting as we move into the new year:
Set SMART Goals
- SMART goals can help you better understand and achieve your goals. The five aspects of this method are: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound. By setting SMART goals, you are much more likely to arrive at your target destination.
Know your Why
- Ask yourself why you set these goals. When your goals have a personal meaning attached to them, you are more likely to stay motivated during the process.
Check-in to Stay on Track
- It can be challenging to stay on track with any goal. To help, find ways to check-in with yourself. Set a calendar reminder, a weekly goal review, or ask a friend to check-in. Do what works for you to stay the course.
Be Accountable
- Goals are easy to set. Staying accountable of them is the hard part. When you feel like abandoning your goals, take a few minutes to evaluation the situation. Try not to punish yourself. Instead recognize the progress you have already made and decide how you can get back on track. Accountability helps you make consistent, steady progress.
As this year ends, take a moment to scan for positives with EAP mindfulness guru, Marc Potter. You can also register for virtual meditation groups with Marc or look at our other virtual mindfulness classes.
