Who is eligible to participate in PEAK?
To be eligible to participate, caregivers must meet the following requirements:
  • Be employed by Intermountain Health
  • Scheduled for 20 or more hours per week
  • Be in good standing. Intermountain employees are eligible to participate on day one of employment as long as they are a caregiver scheduled for 20 hours or more per week.

What does PEAK include and how much will Intermountain Health cover?
PEAK will provide up to $5,250 in tuition coverage each year toward: Select undergraduate degrees and certificates High school diplomas Professional skills and certificates English language learning Tuition is paid directly to the academic institution on your behalf so there’s no waiting period for you to be reimbursed! Intermountain Health will handle payment directly with your chosen academic institution — $5,250 in tuition support each year for available learning options. All you need to do is check with your school to confirm the tuition coverage has been applied.


What will caregivers have to pay out of pocket through this program?
Intermountain Health will pay tuition directly to the academic institution, which means caregivers don’t need to pay out-of-pocket or wait for reimbursement. Caregivers will be responsible for the one-time application fee for degree programs, the cost of books and course materials each session and any tuition costs above the $5,250 yearly coverage limit. What about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®)?
Undergraduate degree applicants are required to complete the FAFSA. Submitting the FAFSA is free and easier than ever, and it gives you access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for your studies — this reduces your out-of-pocket costs while also reducing the amount of tuition to be paid by your employer. It’s important to know that federal grant money is automatically applied to the cost of tuition first.

What if an Intermountain Health employee is not admitted into an undergraduate degree program of their choice?
For Intermountain Health caregivers who apply to ASU and are deemed not admissible, Arizona State University offers a track to admission called Earned Admission. This allows students to earn admission to ASU by successfully completing a series of online courses that count toward their degree. Once students successfully complete these courses with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher, they will earn admission to ASU and have the ability to convert the classes for credit towards their undergraduate degree. CUNY’s Jump Start program provides a pathway for prospective students who may not meet traditional undergraduate admission requirements. Jump Start allows students to create a portfolio that shows the college-level skills and knowledge you’ve developed inside or outside of a college classroom in areas such as leadership, research, technical skills, professional writing, and languages. To explore if Jump Start is the right path, caregivers can connect with an Admissions Advisor by requesting more information for an undergraduate degree program. If caregivers don’t meet the University of Memphis’ general admission requirements, they can earn their way in through Prep Academy, a college prep program that prepares students for academic success. Upon successful completion of Prep Academy, students will be guaranteed undergraduate admission to the University of Memphis as an official student with no required entrance exams. They will also receive 12 college credit hours for completing the Prep Academy (which equals the average number of credit hours for one full semester)! To begin, caregivers should submit a request for information on the University of Memphis Prep Academy learning option page. PEAK covers the cost of Earned Admission, Prep Academy and Jump Start courses.

When do classes start?
Start dates throughout the year, based on the academic institution; some learning options can be started any time.

What happens if an employee leaves Intermountain Health while participating in the program?
All degreed programs require a post-graduation one year work agreement. This means that if an employee terminates while participating in the program, they will be responsible for repaying a prorated portion of their yearly expenses. The caregiver will be able to continue their education with the academic institution if they wish, but students will be responsible for any tuition costs if they are no longer employed by Intermountain Health. For non-degreed programs, caregivers will be able to finish the course they are enrolled in but will not be able to enroll in further courses after their termination.
